Some snowmobile trails are open; club officials asking riders to adhere extreme caution and to respect private property, closed trails

Let it snow! Lew it snow! We have a scoop that many have been itching to hear.

Some snowmobile trails have officially opened here in the North Country. On Monday, Turin Ridge Riders Snowmobile Club said the Tug Hill seasonal roads from Highmarket to Tabolts Corners and down to Glenfield are open.

Meanwhile, Trackside Blazers Club in Forestport also announced that the gates have been opened on their trail system as well.

With that being said, Lost Trail and Penn Mountain Clubs still remain closed as of this report. President of Penn Mountain Club Dan Noeth said there were complaints of “dozens of sleds” riding on their trail systems a couple of days ago, despite the system still being closed.

Echoing several previous warnings, riding on closed trails and private property only subjects the potential for closures to result.

If you’re going out to ride, officials say to check with your club for the latest conditions and to beware of early season hazards (downed trees, rough conditions, etc.).

Our trail reports will begin in the very near future.
