State Police charge local resident who allegedly left scene of fatal Lewis County Amish buggy wreck

LOWVILLE- A Lewis County Grand Jury has indicted a North Country resident, who is accused of fleeing the scene of a fatal Amish buggy wreck over the summer.

This development is according to the latest from WWNY-TV.

On Tuesday, the New York State Police (Lowville) arrested Jared Spaulding, 41, of Copenhagen, NY and formally charged him several felonies, including vehicular manslaughter; driver fleeing accident scene that resulted in death and aggravated unlicensed operation in the first-degree.

Furthermore, Spaulding was charged with misdemeanor counts of aggravated DWI; assault in the third-degree and reckless endangerment in the second-degree.

Investigators say Spaulding allegedly drove his SUV into an Amish buggy on the evening of July 14 and then fled the scene.

It happened on State Route 12, near the Yancey Road in Lowville, NY.

There were five occupants riding along in the buggy when the crash occurred, resulting in one fatality and injuries for the remaining four victims.

Spaulding was reportedly located at his residence following the crash.
