ONEIDA COUNTY- The teenager struck by a vehicle Saturday evening near Rome, NY has died, according to updates released via authorities Tuesday afternoon.
It happened shortly after 7:00 p.m. on Elmer Hill Road, just south of Williams Road in the outer district of Rome.
According to State Police investigation, Isaiah J. Tomassi, 20, of Rome, NY was driving a 2015 Chrysler south on Elmer Hill Road. Police say he came upon and struck a pedestrian alongside the roadway, who was also walking south.
This pedestrian has been identified as Crystal S. Seymour, 13, of Rome, NY. It’s reported Seymour was walking with two other 15-year-old males, who rushed to her aid immediately after she was struck.
Tomassi stopped immediately after impact, called 9-1-1 and began rendering aid to Seymour.
Members from AmCare Ambulance rushed her to Rome Memorial Hospital, where she was transferred to SUNY Upstate in Syracuse, NY.
Investigators mentioned a traumatic brain injury. Originally, Seymour was listed in critical condition; but State Police say she has since succumbed to her injuries while hospitalized.
Police say Tomassi was evaluated by a certified drug recognition expert. The results did not show any signs of possible or likely drug/alcohol impairment, State Police said.
Members from Rome City Police assisted. The investigation remains ongoing.
