
HERKIMER COUNTY- A local resident from Oneida County received numerous tickets after colliding with an Amish buggy.
It happened shortly before 8:00 a.m. Friday on the Cosby Manor Road, town of Schuyler.
The New York State Police handled this investigation and according to their preliminary findings, Matthew L. Walker, 45, of Remsen, NY was heading west in a Volkswagen Jetta.
Police say Walker came upon an Amish buggy and attempted to pass it, but subsequently collided with it, causing both occupants to be ejected. Walker was allegedly traveling at an unsafe speed and also followed too closely, Troopers said.
One buggy occupant, identified as Andy J. Troyer, 30, of Poland, NY suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to Wynn Hospital, while the second occupant, Moses J. Swartzentruber, 40, of Poland, NY did not suffer any injuries from the crash.
The horse pulling the buggy was not harmed from the crash.
Meanwhile, Troopers ended up issuing Walker with various tickets, including for no license, aggravated unlicensed operation in the third-degree, failing to keep right, unsafe passing, unreasonable speed and operating without an interlock device.
At press time, police said the investigation remains ongoing.
