STATE POLICE: No foul play suspected in drowning incident near Denley Dam

LEWIS COUNTY- A local man is deceased from what authorities say was a drowning, which occurred over the weekend in Southern Lewis County.

Emergency responders were called out for reports of a possible drowning on Sunday near the Patriot Hydropower Dam (AKA Denley dam) along the Black River, town of Leyden.

When emergency officials arrived, it’s reported that they found a deceased man, identified as Andrew Locash, 26, of Port Leyden, NY.

According to State Police investigation as of this report, authorities have determined that Locash was kayaking down the Black River, in frozen waters, and drowned when his kayak overturned.

State Police said there is no indication of foul play and an autopsy was scheduled to determine an official cause of death.
