ROME- Authorities say a suspect has been charged with assault in the wake of a stabbing incident late last month.
Alejandro M. Castro, 18, of Rome, NY was arrested and charged by the city police department on Sunday with assault in the second-degree.
Emergency responders were called out to 200 North Levitt Street (Liberty Gardens) during the overnight hours of Tuesday, October 29 for a welfare check on a 24-year-old subject.
Original reports involved a male subject who had suffered lacerations from a broken window, but investigation later suggested that there had been a physical altercation that resulted in a stabbing, police said.
The victim was taken to a local hospital with two puncture wounds to his right side and a laceration to his back.
Investigators say that Castro and the victim were familiar with one another.
At press time, police said that Castro was processed and transported to the Oneida County Jail for arraignment.
