Toddler dies in tragic accident Monday in the Mohawk Valley

HERKIMER COUNTY- Investigators say a toddler is dead in the wake of a tragic accident Monday in the Mohawk Valley, where an 18-month-old girl was run-over by a vehicle.

It happened in the town of Schuyler at around 10:30 a.m. State Police investigation has revealed that the victim’s mother had just arrived home from grabbing groceries. While she was unloading from the SUV, the toddler was playing on an outdoor playset.

Once all the groceries were taken in, the mother began moving the vehicle forward. This is when the toddler ran out in-front and was struck, the State Police said.

The mother immediately rushed her toddler into the house, where she called 9-1-1 and began life saving efforts. Kunkel Ambulance crews rushed the toddler to a nearby hospital.

Unfortunately, that’s where she was pronounced deceased. No charges are expected against the mother.

State Police said the investigation is ongoing.
