WASHINGTON, D.C. – Top lawmakers and figures of federal government continue reacting to the stunning U.S. Supreme Court ruling, which gives former Presidents broad immunity from prosecution.

Specifically, the ruling states that Presidents have ‘absolute immunity’ for clearly official acts, but no immunity for unofficial acts.

In all capital letters on his own social media network soon after the ruling was announced, Donald Trump wrote: “BIG WIN FOR OUR CONSTITUTION AND DEMOCRACY. PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN!”

North Country Congresswoman Elise Stefanik released this following statement: “Today’s Supreme Court decision is a historic victory for President Donald Trump, the Constitution, the rule of law, and the American people. The President of the United States must have immunity, like Members of Congress and federal judges, which is necessary for any presidency to function properly. I look forward to continuing to work with President Trump to ensure his victory and Save America.”

Delivering his remarks from the Whitehouse, President Biden said that “For all practical purposes, today’s decision almost certainly means that there are virtually no limits on what a President can do.”

Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-NY) said the decision was “disgraceful.” “It undermines SCOTUS’s credibility and suggests political influence trumps all in our courts today,” the Senator wrote on social media.

For context, the ruling was 6-3, including three justices, who were appointed by Trump and ruled in favor.

The move is now expected to muddle up and delay Trump’s criminal case, where he is accused of plotting to overturn his 2020 Presidential loss.
