HERKIMER COUNTY- Unsafe speeds were a contributing factor in a fatal snowmobile wreck early Wednesday in the Western Adirondacks, emergency officials are reporting.
It happened sometime after 12:30 a.m. on Trail 5 (between Rondaxe Road and State Route 28) in the town of Webb, according to Town of Webb Police Chief Ron Johnston.
Investigation suggests that Kelly J. Rozansky, 56, of Kinnelon, NJ was operating his 2021 Ski-Doo sled westbound and lost control.
Emergency responders say Rozansky could not regain control and went off the trail, ultimately smashing into a tree.
Members from his riding party eventually found Rozansky, deceased, a short time later.
At press time, Town of Webb Police said unsafe speeds for the conditions were a contributing factor.
There were no further details available.
Members from Old Forge Fire Department and Ambulance assisted.
