UPDATE 12/1, 1PM Lake Effect Snow WARNING for Jefferson and Lewis Counties, Winter Storm WARNING for the Western Adirondacks
FOR LEWIS AND JEFFERSON COUNTIES-...LAKE EFFECT SNOW WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM EST MONDAY... * WHAT...Heavy lake effect snow. Additional snow accumulations 12 to 18 inches in the most persistent lake snows which will be across Jefferson County. An additional 3 to 6 inches for most of Lewis and Oswego counties. * WHERE...The Eastern Lake Ontario Region. The heaviest snow today will focus mainly in Jefferson County and far northern Lewis County. The band of heavy snow will then move south across the entire region this evening. * WHEN...Until 7 PM EST Monday. * IMPACTS...Whiteout conditions are expected and will make travel treacherous and potentially dangerous. Travel will be very difficult to impossible. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... During lake effect snow, the weather can vary from bands of locally heavy snow with greatly reduced visibilities to dry conditions just a few miles away. Be prepared for rapid changes in weather, visibility, and road conditions. Delay all travel. If you must travel, drive with extreme caution. Take a winter storm kit along with you, including such items as tire chains, booster cables, a flashlight, shovel, blankets, and extra clothing. Also take water, non-perishable food, a first aid kit, and anything else that would help you survive if you become stranded.
FOR NORTH HERKIMER COUNTY-...WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 AM EST MONDAY... * WHAT...Heavy lake effect snow. Additional snow accumulations of 2 to 6 inches. Total snow accumulations 6 to 12 inches between Routes 8 and 28, and 1 to 2 feet north of Route 28. * WHERE...Northern Herkimer County. * WHEN...Until 7 AM EST Monday. * IMPACTS...Travel could be difficult along and north of Route 28.
FOR ONEIDA COUNTY-This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for central New York. .DAY ONE...Today and tonight. Hazardous weather is not expected at this time. .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Monday through Saturday. Periods of lake effect snow will continue to affect portions of central New York through Tuesday night. A few inches of snow accumulation will be possible in the most persistent lake effect snow bands. A clipper system will bring more widespread light snow to the region Wednesday, followed by potentially more significant lake effect snow Wednesday night into Thursday. Much colder temperatures and gusty winds are expected to arrive on Friday.
