UPDATE: Boonville garage fire under investigation as authorities cite lithium batteries as possible ignition source

BOONVILLE-Thursday afternoon’s garage fire is under investigation.

It happened sometime shortly after 5:00 p.m. at 2624 Lovers Lane.

Boonville Fire Department was the primary responder, with mutual aid from Constableville and Remsen.

According to Fire Chief Dave Pritchard Jr., an investigation is under way; though authorities have considered the possibility of lithium batteries to be the source of sparking this blaze.

The garage itself was a total loss, but no injuries were reported.

The flames did manage to spread towards a nearby wooded area, but thanks to swift teamwork and response time, firefighters kept the spread to a minimum.
