ONEIDA COUNTY- A suspect is officially charged in the wake of Wednesday’s hit-and-run in the city of Rome, NY.
Matthew J. Rivera, 33, was arrested Thursday by members of Rome City Police. He is charged with leaving the scene of a personal injury accident; failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk and unlicensed operation, officials said.
Rivera is accused of striking a pedestrian on Black River Boulevard, near the Fastrac store. Police say it happened around noontime.
Rivera’s arrest actually was based on an unrelated warrant for apparently leaving the scene of a separate accident last September.
He was issued with an appearance ticket and released.
Police say the 24-year-old victim was taken to an area hospital for injuries that appeared to be non-life threatening at the time.
