TRENTON- The local man accused of aggravated DWI and fleeing the scene of a crash involving an Amish buggy over the weekend in Oneida County reportedly registered a BAC over twice the legal limit, authorities say.
As previously reported, the New York State Police arrested and charged Douglas N. Clark, 58, of Barneveld, NY Saturday night with aggravated DWI and leaving the scene of an injury accident.
According to the latest updates from investigators, Clark was driving a 2015 Ford pick-up east on Powell Road, town of Trenton.
Police say Clark smashed into a horse-drawn Amish buggy, reportedly operated by Andy Swartzentruber, 26. He and his wife, Mattie, and three children Paul, 3, Clara, 2, and Sara, four-months, were all ejected from the buggy and suffered injuries from the crash.
Police say Clara had was airlifted from St. Elizabeth’s to SUNY Upstate with a fractured skull and broken leg. At press time, authorities listed her in critical condition.
Police allege that Clark fled the scene, but did return a short time later.
During processing, police said Clark registered a .21% BAC.
In addition to aggravated DWI and leaving the scene of an injury crash, Clark was formally charged with failing to exercise due care, leaving the scene of an accident involving an animal and following too closely.
