
CHAMPION- State Police investigators have updated with additional details released concerning a North Country burglary investigation in Jefferson County.
As previously reported this week, Philip E. Winkempleck, 38, of Carthage, NY was arrested and charged with one felony count of burglary in the second-degree (illegal entry of a dwelling).
Troopers responded to a burglary complaint on State Route 3 in the town of Champion shortly after 4:30 a.m. Thursday.
The homeowner stated that they had found a male subject stealing items inside their residence.
Winkempleck, the alleged suspect, then ran off after he was confronted by the homeowner. While searching the area, Troopers located a male matching the suspect description walking through the woods on a neighboring property.
Troopers took Winkempleck into custody and he was positively identified by the homeowner as the suspect.
Winkemplek was arraigned in the Jefferson County CAP Court and remanded to jail on $10,000 cash/ $15,000 bond/ $20,000 partially secure bond.
