VILLAGE OF LOWVILLE-A fire in Lowville’s Valley View Apartments was confined to a stove. The Lowville Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire at the apartments early Sunday morning. At the time of the call, it was report that the fire was in the stove. Due to the nature of the call, Martinsburg Firefighters were requested immediately for mutual aid. When fire units arrived at the scene, they were met with light smoke conditions upon entry to the hallway of C-wing with more smoke located in apartment C-103 which had the fire inside of it. It was then determined the fire had not spread beyond the stove. Martinsburg Firefighters were then cancelled. Firefighters used multiple fans to ventilate C-wing and fire doors were closed to prevent smoke from spreading beyond C-wing. Once the building was ventilated, fire unites disconnected the stove and turned it over to the building maintenance personnel. Firefighters were on the scene for approximately 30 minutes. It was determined that a rubber shelf guard fell on the heating coil and caused the fire. There were no injuries.
