John W. "Jack" Matulewicz

LOWVILLE- John W. “Jack” Matulewicz, 91, of Ridge Road, passed away on Wednesday January 1, 2025 at Sunset Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Boonville.

A funeral Mass will be said at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday January 9, 2025 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Lowville with Rev. John Ojuok, officiating.  A luncheon will follow the Mass at St. Peter’s fellowship hall, all are welcome.  Spring burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery, New Bremen.  Calling hours are from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday January 8, 2025 at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in John’s name to St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 5457 Shady Ave., Lowville, NY 13367 or to Lewis County Search and Rescue, 7782 West State Street, Lowville, NY 13367. 

Jack is survived by his beloved wife, Clara of more than 65 years; three children, Jane Hills, Andy (Cathy) Matulewicz, Walter Matulewicz; a son-in-law, Greg Buckingham; five grandchildren; a great-grandson; three step-grandchildren, Stephanie, Justin and Brittany; a sister, Mary (Albert) Kraeger; his in-laws, Clem (Wilma) Bush, Bernard (Barbara) Bush; nieces, nephews and cousins.  He is predeceased by his parents; a daughter, Rita Matulewicz Buckingham; a daughter-in-law, Debora Matulewicz; and a son-in-law, Philip Hills.

Jack was born on November 1, 1933 in Constableville, NY, a son of the late John A. and Teresa Konzal Matulewicz.  He enlisted in the U.S. Army on November 8, 1954 and served until his honorable discharge on November 7, 1957.  On June 6, 1959, he married Clara E. Bush at St. Peter’s Church, New Bremen with Rev. Pancratius Halstrom officiating.  Together with his wife, Jack owned and operated Matulewicz Produce, starting part-time in 1965 and becoming full-time in 1975, until November 1998, upon their retirement.
