Town of Greig- Karen E. Smith, 64, of Fish Creek Road, passed away on Monday, August 18, 2025, with her daughter, Stacey, by her side, at Wynn Hospital, Utica, after a long illness.

Karen was born in Constableville, NY, on May 9, 1961, a daughter of Wallace John and Estella Stoklosa Smith.  She grew up on Rt. 12 near the hamlet of Alder Creek and attended Forestport Elementary School, before graduating and earning a regents diploma with honors, from Adirondack Central School, Boonville, with the Class of 1979.  After high school, Karen attended Jefferson County Community College, Watertown, where she studied nursing.

She was first employed at Mansur Farm, Rt. 12, Boonville, before employment at Lally Manufacturing Co. Port Leyden, before employment at Lewis County General Hospital, Lowville, as a C.N.A., from January, 1989, until 1998, retiring due to an injury.  Later she was employed at area bars, before fifteen years of employment at the Pub Bar and Grill, in downtown Boonville, greatly enjoying this because of the many people she met.

In 1979, she married Jeff Lee, and the couple divorced in 1983.  In 1984, she and Frank Tucker became companions, living on the Fish Creek Road, until Mr. Tucker passed away in June, 1999.  Later she married John Tucker and they were divorced.  Lastly, Karen was a long time companion with Tony Oaks, until he passed away on February 23, 2023. 

Karen is survived by two daughters, Stacey (Richard) Hardin, Forestport, Jessica Lee, Herkimer; three grandchildren; two sisters, Priscilla Boliver, Frances Boliver, both of Croghan; many nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews.  Karen was predeceased by brothers, Henry and James and her parents, Wallace John Smith, in 1982 and her mother, Estella Smith, in 2010. 

Her Funeral will be on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, where Deacon James Chaufty, of the South Lewis Catholic Parishes will preside.  Interment will be in Sands Cemetery, Greig.  Calling hours are Tuesday from 4-7 P.M. at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions may be made to Cancer Connects, an organization assisting people who are battling cancer, at 5008 Britton Field Parkway, #800. East Syracuse, NY 13057.

Following the burial all are invited to join the family at the Charles J. Love Post #406, American Legion, East Schuyler St. Boonville, for a luncheon.  Donations of food may be dropped off on Wednesday beginning at 11:00 am.
