Randolph E. "Randy" Smith

Randy left this earthly world on October 30, 2026. He was born on October 5, 1953, in Constableville, NY, to Francis J. and Mary E. Wynne Smith. He grew up on Schuyler St. in Constableville and attended Constableville Central School before graduating from South Lewis High School in Turin with the Class of 1972. In July 1972, Randy enlisted in the United States Marines Corps. He served until July 1974, attaining the rank of corporal.
Randy began working in the family business as a young teenager and continued through high school. His father had started the business in 1946; it later became known as F.J. Smith & Sons, Inc. After his military service, Randy returned to work on the blacktop crew, eventually driving a tandem truck and then a tractor-trailer. He loved driving truck, even though he grumbled about some of the places he was sent. He took great pride in all of his rigs.
After F.J. Smith’s shut down in 2003 he drove truck for S.& L. Goodhines & Sons, Patrick Croniser Logging, & Matt Farr Logging.
Randy is survived by his two sisters: Sharon Kelly of Troy, NY; and Susan Billhardt (Brad) of Turin, NY. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Bonnie Smith, of Constableville, NY, as well as nephews: Jason Smith, Michael Kelly, Chris (Deanna) and Andy (Lindsey) Remillard and Ethan Billhardt, and nieces: Erin (Aaron) Swift, Tara (Stephen) Knaup, Kathy (John) Leis, and Natalee Billhardt.
Randy is predeceased by his parents, his brother Roger, his sister and brother- in-law Shirley and Bruce Remillard, brother-in-law David Kelly, and a niece Kimberly Smith-Armstrong.
Randy will be missed by his family and the many friends he crossed paths with through the years. He will be remembered for his quick wit and dry humor, and for being the master of the Irish exit—even from the family dinner table and especially at family gatherings. His love of DOT tape; he put it on everything. He was also the giver of lottery tickets: if you gave him something, you were getting a lottery ticket in return. And lastly, his devotion to his Chevy pick-ups, they were always in pristine condition.
Graveside services with military honors will be held on Saturday, November 7, at 1:00 pm at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Constableville, with Rev. Deacon Michael Lieber officiating. Calling hours will be held on Saturday from 10:00am – 12:00pm at Trainor Funeral Home. Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Constableville Vol. Fire Dept. P.O.
