Thomas F. Stocklosa
Boonville – Thomas F. Stocklosa, 74, passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2026 at Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester, with his loving wife and sons by his side.
He was born on October 17, 1951, a son of Louis and Bettie Binhamer Stocklosa, and grew up on Woodgate Dr. in Boonville. He graduated from Boonville Central School in 1970, where he also received a certificate in auto mechanics from BOCES.
Tom was a well known and respected carpenter, working until ill-health forced him into retirement. He inherited a strong work ethic from his father, and passed it on to his sons. He loved what he did and often said: “If you love what you do, you never really work a day in your life.” Many of his customers became lifelong friends.
In the 1980’s and early ‘90’s, Tom worked for Butler Capital Corp. building the Black River Game Farm (fallow deer, elk, and alpaca), and improving the BREIA ski trail system. At the same time he also had his own heard of fallow deer. Tom was a past member of the Boonville Fire Co., Boonville Search & Rescue, and the Charles J. Love Post #406 Sons of the American Legion.
On June 12, 1976, Tom was united in marriage with Cherene “Rene” Powell at the Boonville Methodist Church. Together they raised two sons. He was very proud of his sons, and enjoyed teaching them the construction trade. In the 1990’s Tom taught his sons about community service, as during the Christmas Season they became the caretakers of “Santa’s Reindeer” in the Village Park, with his son Ben continuing the tradition.
Tom cherished his granddaughter Jazzmine and enjoyed making memories with her – in the workshop, 4-wheeling, baking pies, making jam and teaching her how to drive.
In 2023 Tom was given a 2nd chance at life when his son Adam became his stem cell donor. This gave Tom another 3 years to enjoy his family and friends.
Tom is survived by his wife Rene, sons Benjamin of Boonville, Adam (Noel) of Steuben, and his beloved granddaughter Jazzmine of Boonville. He is also survived by sister-in-law Mickey Gaetano, brother-in-law Ned (Vicki) O’Brien, mother-in-law Dolores O’Brien Remp, brother David (Deb) Stocklosa, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and many good friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, sister Gloria, brothers-in-law: James Powell, Thomas Powell, Philip “Skip” Gaetano, and father-in-law Raymond “Red” Powell.
A Memorial Service will be held at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville on Saturday, March 21, at 1:00 pm with Rev. Jack Ford, pastor of Boonville Global Methodist Church officiating. Calling hours will be held on Saturday from 10:00 am until the service at the funeral home. Interment in the spring will be in Boonville Cemetery. Immediately following the service family and friends are invited to a luncheon at the Boonville Methodist Church, Main St. Boonville.
