William L. Marmon
Port Leyden- William L. Marmon, 93, passed away at Rome Health Extended Care on February 1, 2024.
He was born in Port Leyden N.Y. on June 7, 1930 a son of William Keith and Mary Pfendler Marmon. He grew up in Port Leyden and graduated from Port Leyden High school in 1949. William entered the Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged. He was united in marriage with Patricia Flinton August 6, 1955 at St. John’s Church, Lyons Falls. The couple settled in Port Leyden and Patricia died September 8, 2004.
William was employed at Ethan Allen Furniture, Boonville as a Finishing Room Supervisor, retiring with over 30 years of dedicated service. He was an active member of St. Martin’s Catholic Church, serving as trustee and was a volunteer at the food pantry, and Strawberry Social. William served on the Port Leyden Library Board, Lyonsdale Town Board, Jefferson-Lewis BOCES Board. For many years he served in the Knights of Columbus #7794, J.S. Koster Hose Vol. Fire Dept. He volunteered at Sunset Nursing Home, and other senior citizen organizations. William was a longtime little league and farm league coach in Port Leyden and was a referee for the NYSPHSAA Boys Basketball with his friend Frank Bouchard. He and Judy McLaughlin were married on October 22, 2010. He and Judy enjoyed, dancing, hiking, walking, and new adventures.
Surviving are his wife, Judy; children, Teresa and Jerome Britton, Julie LaMonte, Charles and Joanne Marmon, Rosemary Reed and Gerry Morton, Joel and Debra Marmon; step children, Amy and Karl Celarier, Timothy McLaughlin, Christopher and Julienne Shank, Martha McLaughlin and Paul Starr, Helen McLaughlin; many grandchildren and greatgrandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Rosemary Flint and Linda Marmon and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Patricia, brothers, Robert and Alan Marmon, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Charles {Bud] and Kathleen Flint, son-in-law Steve LaMonte and nephew, Robert Marmon and Judy’s sons, Daniel and Michael McLaughlin.
William dedicated his life to many civic, athletic, and religious organizations, please consider a donation in his memory to an organization of your choice. William’s family would like to thank Rome Health Extended Care 3rd Floor, Dr. Todd Podkowka, and staff for the care and compassion shown to them and William. Also Sunset Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for his loving care he received there prior to moving to Rome Extended Care.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, February 8, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Martin’s Church, Port Leyden with Rev. Daniel Chapin as celebrant. Interment in the spring at Calvary Cemetery.
