Black Bear Sighted, Photographed, Destroys Local Property

Published on June 02, 2017

Black Bear

Town of Leyden- Depending on where you are, or where you’ve been, it’s very likely that you’ve heard chatter about recent bear sightings in the local area.

An area resident submitted a photograph to the Boonville Herald, displaying a big black bear on Dutch hill Road, in the Town of Leyden. Reports indicate that the bear was spotted at the home of Rick and Becky Davis, and then made its way down to the Haig home, on the Spencer Road. The bear reportedly wrecked their bird feeder, pulled down a hummingbird feeder and poked a hole through a window screen.

The NYS DEC reminds all residents to never feed a bear, or entice a bear. It’s also wise not to taunt a bear, as they are a wild animal and can be unpredictable.

*Note, the photograph used for this story is not the bear that was sighted and photographed, as we could not obtain an actual picture of the said bear.
