ONEIDA COUNTY- A truck is a total loss in the wake of a vehicle fire Thursday morning in the town of Western, though the flames were likely kept from spreading thanks to the quick thinking of a local homeowner.
It happened sometime shortly after 8:00 a.m. on the Stokes-Westernville Road. Western Fire Department was the primary responder on-scene.
By the time first responders arrived, the truck was fully engulfed by flames. A driveway was plowed to allow firefighters to access the scene.
Though the truck appears to be destroyed and there were no injuries mentioned, emergency officials are recognizing a local homeowner’s efforts to keep the flames at bay by using a snow-blower.
Members from the Western Town Highway Department assisted.
The Western Fire Department also published this following message;
"This is a good time to look at access to your properties. If you were ever faced with an emergency would the fire department be able to reach you with our apparatus? Remember our response vehicles are much larger than our personal vehicles and with the recent amounts of snowfall we all are faced with even narrower driveways. Plan ahead incase you need help so we are able to reach you in your time of need!"
