Local flu cases on the rise: Health experts strongly recommend getting a flu shot

Published on January 18, 2018

Lewis County- Health experts say the most common strain of flu so far this season is H3N2. The latest reports from local officials indicate a rise of flu cases in our area.

This year’s flu vaccine includes the H3N2 strain and Lewis County Public Health officials are reminding you it’s not too late to get your flu shot. As we’ve discussed with health officials, flu season typically peaks between December and February; however, has potential to last into May.

According to Ellen Scanlon, of Lewis County Public Health, if you become ill, the worst thing you can do is expose yourself to the public. “It’s very important when we get the flu vaccine that we realize we’re protecting infants six months and younger”, Scanlon said. She also emphasized the importance of shielding the elderly from flu exposure and those who have a compromised immune system.

A flu vaccine can be obtained at Lewis County Public Health, your doctor’s office or your local pharmacy. For questions and concerns about the flu shot, call 315-376-5453.
