
ROME- A barn fire near the city of Rome, NY resulted in the loss of animals Thursday morning.
According to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, it happened sometime shortly after 9:30 at 7495 Cemetery Road.
By the time the first wave emergency responders arrived, the barn was already fully engulfed by flames.
Firefighters from Rome Fire Department managed to get the blaze under control, but it has been confirmed that 8 calves and 2 horses were tragically lost.
The fire remains under investigation as of this publication and there were no human injuries reported.
Investigators say the owners were not home when the fire sparked.
The State Police, AmCare Ambulance, National Grid and Oneida County DPW all assisted.
In addition, surrounding neighbors and friends helped with relocating various dairy cows to another location for the time being.
