Sunday, August 4th 

  • CONSTABLEVILLE-Join us August 4th @ 1:00 PM, at the Hall for a special event with Lacrosse players from the Oneida Nation! They will kick things off with a brief presentation on the history of lacrosse, an overview of the game, and a demonstration. Then, they will lead participants of all ages through various skills and drills to improve their game. This event is open to everyone, not just lacrosse players. However, lacrosse players of all ages are encouraged to join in and learn from the Oneida athletes. Best of all, it's completely free to attend! Following the Skills and Drills session, we will have a children's shoot-out for kids 12 and under. Entry is $10.00, and the first 50 kids to sign up will receive a commemorative medal for participating. The entry fee also includes a tour of the Hall, so don't miss out on this exciting opportunity! Don't miss this chance to learn from skilled lacrosse players and have some fun on the field. See you there! 
  • Featured performer Jim Kimball at Fiddlers August 4th On Sunday, August 4, 2024 from 2:00-5:00 pm, Jim Kimball will be the featured performer of traditional music at the North American Fiddler Hall of Fame and Museum at 1121 Comins Road in Osceola NY.   Jim Kimball is a professor at SUNY Geneseo, where he is the leader of the Geneseo String Band.  He is known to narrate the history of a piece of music while the audience listens to it being played.  He teaches American, popular, and world music, as well as music history at the SUNY school.  Members of the audience are invited to jam during Jim’s mid-afternoon break. Jim will perform on the stage in the Fiddlers Pavilion. which can be enclosed in case of inclement weather, has sufficient seating, dance floor, a brick patio with picnic tables, the Museum Store and a flea market. Admission is free.  The Hall of Fame and Museum is open with free admission during concerts or by appointment.  A Fiddlers Kitchen with prepackaged snacks is also found on the site.   The site is handicap-accessible, smoke-free, drug=free, and pet free.  There is free parking on the left side of the shared driveway. 
  • LOWVILLE-A-Spire to Greatness - a music and talent show First Presbyterian Church, Lowville Sunday, August 4th from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm An opportunity to enjoy entertainment and fellowship in a beautiful facility Light refreshments will be served.   • LOWVILLE-Tuesday, August 6th, Join us for storytime, Smiling Stories, on Tuesday mornings at 11 am with books, songs, movement, and crafts! We start each morning with 10-15 minutes of playtime, then read together, do some movement and interactive fun, and finish up with another activity like a craft or game.
  • OLD FORGE-Old Forge Library's Music in the Gazebo Series will feature musician Jared Campbell on Tuesday, August 6 at 4 pm. Jared Campbell is an award winning Northern New York singer/songwriter who has been traveling the country performing for thousands of people and hundreds of schools over the past decade. He's shared the stage with famous bands and musicians and has also been featured on TV. He's been acknowledged by Billboard Magazine as one of the top independent musicians in the northeast. Jared is no stranger to Old Forge having performed both at the library and the Town of Webb School. The large lawn area surrounding the library gazebo offers the opportunity to spread out and enjoy this free, family-friendly entertainment. The Friends of the Old Forge Library will offer a used book sale during the concerts if weather permits. Listeners are invited to stop by their booth and load up on used books, DVDs, puzzles and more. Donations are appreciated. Library concerts are always free to attend. Listeners are asked to bring their own blanket or folding chair.
  • LOWVILLE-Village of Lowville presents Music in the Park 2024 at Veterans Memorial Park on Parkway Drive, behind the fire hall. Tuesday, August 6th at 6 pm, Patti Stanford will be featured.  In case of rain, the bands will perform at the fairgrounds pavilion.  Please bring your own seating.  Smoking and alcohol are strictly prohibited.   
  • REMSEN-REMSEN, NY -- The Remsen Arts Center presents the Tuesday Night Big Band live concert on Tuesday, August 6th at 7pm at 9627 Main Street, Remsen, NY. At the door cash prices: $10 General Admission; $8 Members; $5 Students. Advance online sale and at the door credit card prices: $11 General Admission; $9 Members. The Tuesday Night Big Band was formed in the summer of 1991. Since that time the band has spent each summer season and occasional holidays playing at parks, concert venues, and private events. The 14 members are experienced musicians that come from the Utica region. At this time, 4 players from 1991 still remain in the group, and many have been in the group for nearly 20 years. Most of the music played by the band was first popular in the 1930s and '40s by big bands, including ones led by Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Benny Goodman and many others. The Tuesday Night Big Band enjoys keeping this music alive for audience enjoyment into the 21st century plus playing more recent compositions. This museum on wheels is back with lots of activities for your children to participate in: Like solving puzzles, games, team building, and so much more! Local actors and crew ages 8-18 are featured in this musical under the direction of Amy Simanowski, Aidan Talerico, and Hailey LeRoy. Friday, August 9th

  • CROGHAN-Caring Friends of the Community are holding a live auction, raffle baskets, Friends of God playing ahead of auction, & LaMonts Food Fair. Friday Aug. 9th beginning at 4:30 p.m at the Croghan Rec Park. in the ice rink. All proceeds are used in the community.
  • BOONVILLE-Friday, August 9th, and every Friday through the end of August is Boonville Community Harvest Farmers Market from 2-7pm at the Elks Lodge in Boonville.
  • TURIN-Jennifer Donnelly will be presenting a wonderful program at the Turin Library on Friday, August 9th at 6:00. She will be speaking about her award-winning novel A Northern Light. The talk is titled "The Presence of the Past: Writing A Northern Light".  In 2015, this wonderful book was named TIME Magazine's one of the best 100 young adult books of all time!  It is also the winner of the Carnegie Medal, the L.A. Times Book Prize, the Borders Original Voices Prize and a Michael L. Printz Honor.  A Northern Light is a coming of age story set against the backdrop of a true murder which took place in the Adirondacks in the summer of 1906.  Her program delves into the inspiration behind the novel, how she researched and wrote the book, and how her childhood in Port Leyden shaped her as a writer. There will be a Q & A after the talk, and she's always happy to answer questions about her many other books, her writing process, and to talk about agents, editors, and my experiences in both traditional and independent publishing.   Join us for a great time getting to know the story behind A Northern Light!
  • WEST LEYDEN-On Friday, August 9th Fritz's Polka Band will perform at 6 p.m. at the handicapped accessible Town of Lewis Park, which is located at 4801 Mud Lake Road, West Leyden, NY 13489. Community members of all ages are invited to attend this free performance, sponsored by the Town of Lewis Library and the St.Lawrence County Arts Council. Bring your lawn chairs, dancing shoes, and your friends.   • LOWVILLE-Lowville Free Library will have a Stuffed Animal Sleepover Storytime on Saturday, August 10th from 11 am -noon.  On Friday, drop off a stuffed animal at the library and get them ready for a sleepover. After your stuffed animal sleeps over at the library, join us on Saturday morning for a storytime! We’ll read a story, play games, and have a snack.   • ROME-- Cornell Cooperative Extension Oneida County, in collaboration with NYCAMH, is pleased to announce the FarmSafe: Manure Management and Gas Safety Seminar scheduled for August 10th at 11:00 AM. The event will be held at Collins Farm, located at 8744 Thomas Road, Rome NY 13440. Safety is vital to the success and wellbeing of the farm, its owners, employees, and livestock. This is especially true in circumstances requiring the use of powerful equipment or hazardous chemicals and navigating tricky situations that regularly arise on the farm. It’s important to know how to mitigate problems and potential threats as they happen. Not only do those who work on, manage, or own a farm need to engage in best practices for safety, but first responders need to recognize how to handle agricultural safety hazards to protect themselves and the communities they serve.  The FarmSafe Manure Management and Gas Safety informative seminar will equip our local agriculture community and first responders with essential knowledge and practical strategies for effective manure management and ensuring safety from hazardous gases on farms. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn from industry experts through insightful presentations, participate in a Q&A session to address specific concerns, and network with peers and professionals in the agricultural community.   • BOONVILLE-ToePath Trekkers weekly run and walks are on Thursdays at 6:30 pm. They meet in the Lansing Pavilion in Erwin Park and run and walk the towpath, followed by social time after. Hot dogs and water are provided. 
  • LYONS FALLS-Beginning Thursday, July 11th, The Lyons Falls Library, 3918 High Street, will host a free educational program for teens by The Northern Regional Center for Independent Living (NRCIL)—"What's Good About Teen Anger."   • OLD FORGE-The Old Forge Library is hosting the Town of Webb Historical Association's Local History Series on Thursdays throughout the summer at 5 pm. The series will feature a different speaker each week who will give a presentation and lead a discussion on a variety of interesting local history subjects.   • CONSTABLEVILLE-Join us at Constable Hall Sunday, August 11th at 1 PM for a special event with Jessica Farmer, Cultural Programs Coordinator at the Shako:wi Cultural Center and member of the Oneida Indian Nation in Oneida, NY. Jessica will be sharing artifacts and discussing her cultural knowledge with us. A storyteller and artist, she grew up on the Buffalo Fields at the Onondaga Nation, learning traditional Haudenosaunee legends and lore from her father, Isaiah Farmer of the Onondaga Turtle Clan. Jessica continues to learn from traditional title holders, knowledge keepers, and Storytellers to expand her knowledge of Haudenosaunee culture and history. And don't forget to mark your calendars for Sunday, August 18th at 2PM for our 75th Anniversary Party! Chris Thomas (Onondaga) and his Smoke Dancers will be performing to conclude our month-long celebration of Native American Appreciation Month.   • OLD FORGE-Old Forge Library's Music in the Gazebo Series continues each Tuesday afternoon with a concert by Cincinnati Creek on Tuesday, August 13 at 4 pm. Cincinnati Creek performs acoustic bluegrass, gospel, and folk music including a few original tunes. Lori Thompson writes much of the new material played by the band. She began playing mandolin in her family band at age 16. She has been writing songs ever since. Lori plays mandolin, guitar and sings both lead and harmony vocals for Cincinnati Creek. Lori is joined by Cathy Martin on bass and vocals, Chris Pepe on banjo, and Joe Rowlands on guitar and vocals. They have performed at many venues including Utica Monday Night, The Fox Family Festival, The Adirondack Railroad, The Remsen Barn Festival, numerous coffee houses and outdoor festivals. Based in the Adirondack foothills, they took their name from the creek that runs nearby. The large lawn area surrounding the library gazebo offers the opportunity to spread out and enjoy this free, family-friendly entertainment.   • LOWVILLE-Saturday, August 17th is the 10th annual back to school block party and backpack drive at the Lewis County Fairgrounds.   From 10 am until 2 pm, there will be supply filled backpacks given away, food trucks, family service providers, a duck match pond, raffles and chance auctions, a live performance by Undefeated from 12-1pm.  Raffles will be awarded starting at 2pm.

Bags available to borrow if needed 4 game round robin into Double Elimination with 6 games guaranteed minimum.  There will be beer Bucket and Drink Specials.  This is a fundraiser for the Marine Corps League #754
  • BOONVILLE- The ACAL Basket Raffle will be at the Masonic Temple in Boonville on Saturday, August 17th from 10 am until 4 pm. Please use the Ford Street entrance. The usual array of baskets will be offered. Winning tickets will be drawn at 4 pm, and the winners must be able to pick up the prizes between 4 pm and 7 pm. Donations are gratefully accepted and may be dropped off at the Masonic Temple on Thursday, August 15th from 3 pm to 6 pm. This is a fundraiser to supplement ACAL's Environmental Scholarship Fund.
  • LOWVILLE- Marine Corps League #754 Chicken BBQ on Saturday, August 17th at 10:30 at 7301 State St in Lowville.  This will benefit the Art Matusczcak Scholarship
  • LOWVILLE-Lowville Free Library will have Hola! Bilingual Storytime on Saturday, August 17th from 11 am -noon. Books, activities, and movement in both English and Spanish! They start with playtime and then do group reading and activities. All are welcome!
