Gas prices have been going up these past few weeks, but the national average price decreased slightly last-week to $3.65 and has remained steady as of this report.
That’s according to the AAA, as officials say the current average price is nearly the same as a year ago now. In late March, the national average was $3.53.
“Domestic gas demand is pretty pokey at the moment, which is often the case in the run-up to Memorial Day and the traditional start of summer driving season,” said Andrew Gross, AAA spokesperson.
“The recent national average price of $3.67 could be the peak until hurricane season is well underway. But as always, the wildcard will be the cost of oil, so stay tuned.”
Here in New York, drivers are paying a statewide average of $3.71 as of this report, which, again, is nearly identical to this time a year ago.
That’s considerably more than when it was shy of $3.50 back in March.
Locally, drivers are noticing increases at their gas pumps. In Lowville, NY, GasBuddy is reporting fuel prices as low as $3.68 and slightly higher in Boonville, NY.
In Watertown, NY, some establishments are offering pump prices a little cheaper, but most seem to be ranging close to what folks in the Lowville and Boonville regions are paying.
The same can be said for the Syracuse, NY region, again all according to GasBuddy.
Finally in the Mohawk Valley area, drivers are paying similar prices at the pumps in the cities of both Rome and Utica, NY.
