The national average gas price Tuesday morning here in the U.S. was $3.44, according to the AAA.

That’s nearly 15-cents cheaper than last-month’s average at this time and cheaper than a year ago now. “Gasoline demand has trailed 2023 for most of this year, and analysts believe economic uncertainty may suppress demand this summer,” said Andrew Gross, AAA spokesperson.

“So, is the typical robust summer driving season a thing of the past? Or is gas demand just taking longer to pick up steam? We may not know until autumn.”

As of this report, New Yorkers are paying an average of $3.59 at the pumps, which is slightly less than last-week and almost 10-cents cheaper than a month ago.

Last June, drivers in New York were paying an average of $3.69.

Locally, drivers are paying as low as $3.55 in Lowville, NY and $3.69 in Boonville, NY, according to GasBuddy.

In neighboring Watertown, NY, GasBuddy reported prices as of this publication that ranged similarly, with some establishments offering gas as cheap as $3.45. The same can be said for the city of Syracuse, NY, with a few select pumps offering gas as low as $3.25.

Finally, prices in the Mohawk Valley, specifically the cities of Rome and Utica, NY, reflect similar pump prices to the North Country.
