ALBANY, NY- The latest buzz about energy costs in Albany has crescendoed to a tipping point, as it appears that New Yorkers have had it with skyrocketing of power and heating bills this winter.

In response to this growing outcry from home and business owners, State Republicans have introduced a package of legislation that is aimed to lower energy bills and potentially refund money to ratepayers.

According to numerous sources, there are three main highlights in this proposal, including repealing energy mandates, providing immediate ratepayer relief and requiring transparency in billing.

Republicans have long accused a growing list of energy mandates for being the main culprit behind rising heating and power bills.

Specifically, Republicans have aims of returning somewhere in the ballpark of $2 billion in charges that have been collected for NYSERDA.

In terms of billing transparency, Republican figures demand that any and all charges or mandates be clearly listed out on energy bills.

It is reported that State Democrats have also introduced their own package of bills to help solve the issue, including holding utility corporations responsible.
