ROME- Four teenage students at Rome Free Academy are all faced with charges stemming from a dispute that erupted during a recent varsity basketball game.
According to the City Police Department, the incident occurred on December 19 and involved a 15-year-old male, who reportedly was asked to leave the property by school resource officers.
For context, this teenager had been previously banned from attending school events on the property due to prior disciplinary issues.
When told to leave the premises, the teen became unruly and combative, thus resulting in an altercation. While this was going on, police officials say three more teenagers, ages 15, 17 & 17 all got involved in the altercation, which resulted in minor injuries for a school security officer and the 15-year-old.
All four suspects have since been charged with various offenses, including criminal nuisance in the second-degree; menacing in the third-degree; obstructing governmental administration in the second-degree and resisting arrest.
All charges were forwarded to Oneida County Juvenile Probation.
