Arrest warrant executed on Southern Lewis County resident following late spring motorcycle wreck in Boonville

BOONVILLE- A Lewis County area resident was arrested last week on a warrant stemming from a motorcycle wreck that occurred during this past spring.

According to the Village Police Department, Joshua D. Rogers, 40, of Lyons Falls, NY was released from Lewis County’s Correctional Facility and handed over to the custody of Boonville Police.

Stemming from the warrant, Rogers was charged with several misdemeanor counts of operating on a revoked license, operating with a suspended license and operating without a required ignition interlock device.

Rogers was also charged with numerous other traffic violations, including switched plates, operating a vehicle that was unregistered, uninspected and uninsured and failure to comply.

On June 16, Boonville Police observed a motorcycle with a loud muffler and expired liberty plate on Academy Street.

The motorcycle fled despite police attempting a traffic stop, but only a short while later, the motorcycle was found wrecked on a lawn just blocks from where police attempted to stop the operator.

The motorcycle was damaged significantly and the operator had already fled, but thanks to various home security footage and community members responding to a social media post, Boonville Police successfully identified Rogers as the operator of the bike.

A short time following the incident, Rogers was arrested in Lewis County on unrelated charges and the warrant was lodged at the Lewis County Correctional Facility.

At press time, police said that Rogers was taken in for arraignment.
