ONEIDA COUNTY- State authorities are investigating a surprise drone drop that occurred at Marcy Correctional Facility over the weekend.
Sometime after midnight on Saturday, the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision has confirmed that a drone dropped off a load of drugs between two dormitory buildings.
The drone managed to fly within the facility’s secured perimeter, but was spotted by prison staff members, who saw a package get dropped from above.
An investigation immediately commenced and the State Police Bomb Squad was called in at first because there were wires protruding from the package. However, no explosives were found.
With that said, authorities say this drone drop-off package included the following:
- Two eight-inch, double-edged knives
- Approximately 530 grams of a green leafy substance
- Five pieces of paper saturated in intoxicating chemicals
- One cell phone
- Two hair clippers with chargers and accessories
- Four bandanas
State officials say they recovered the drone outside of the facility.
An investigation remains on going and no arrests have been announced.
