ALBANY, NY- Reactions have begun surfacing in the wake of a surprising development last last-week, where New York announced that it will be delaying the implementation of its All Electric Buildings Law, which was supposed to take full effect come January 1, 2026.

“In the North Country and Mohawk Valley, where winter temperatures routinely drop well below freezing, forcing new homes and small businesses to rely solely on electric heat would have been devastating, both economically and practically,” said Assemblyman Ken Blankenbush.

“This development is hopefully a sign that the governor realizes the energy agenda she and the legislative majorities support just isn’t practical,” said Senator Joe Griffo.

Under this law, all newly constructed buildings under seven-stories would be required to have exclusively electric appliances and heat. In other words, no gas or any other forms of heat or power.

The law does have some exemptions and would not apply to any work done on existing structures, according to sources from the legislature.
