Boonville Chamber hosts re-scheduled meeting from March, says it’s ‘time to move on’
BOONVILLE- The Boonville Area Chamber of Commerce hosted their annual meeting last-week, which was rescheduled from mid-March after officials decided to postpone it.
Approximately a dozen people showed up. As advertised, the meeting was for members only.
Once the meeting was called to order and the board went through previous meeting minutes and the treasurers report, President Dave Leffingwell addressed those in attendance.
He said this meeting was not their usual dinner gathering, but with that being said, there were snacks and refreshments provided. “The last two-and-a half-years have been a stressful time for all of us and we are looking forward to fulfilling our annual meeting businesses and moving on to a prosperous year for the community,” President Leffingwell said.
“This past year has been very difficult trying to navigate financially and transparency issues from past years.”
To clarify, President Leffingwell said those problems range from “about” 2012 to 2019.
$2,500 was spent recently for the chamber to have legal advisement and a new set of bylaws are now effective. They were voted on on March 20, according to what Tourism Director Loraine Murwin said during the gathering.
These bylaws, although they were not handed out to each individual during the meeting, were and are currently available for inspection, along with any other records on-hand.
Folks wishing to examine these documents are asked to make an appointment. Chamber officials said some documents will require a signature in order to view them, such as bank statements.
Those in attendance were provided with opportunity to examine records and ask questions throughout the meeting.
Towards the end of the meeting, President Leffingwell nominated and approved Paul Fortin to the chamber board. He will serve as Director of Veterans Affairs.
As of this report, the chamber has over 100 members, with nearly 60 of which are paid.
The chamber said they are in the final preparations for their ‘Best of Boonville’ celebration, aimed for Saturday, June 3, along with numerous other events this year as well.
Stay tuned, we’ll have more on the Best of Boonville next week.
