ONEIDA AND HERKIMER COUNTIES- A pair of local residents are faced with accusations in the wake of a State Police campaign to crack down on the sale of flavored nicotine vapes to minors.

Aadil Tahiri, 38, of Boonville, NY and Adnan H. Almahen, 28, of Rome, NY are both officially charged with endangering the welfare of a child. According to Troopers, these arrests are among numerous others that have taken place across Herkimer and Oneida Counties as a part of ‘Operation Vaporizer.’

There are two stores in Boonville that are associated with the charges against Tahiri and Almahen: NC Smoke Shop, 13187 State Route 12 and ZI Smoke Shop, 13410 State Route 12.

The village police department assisted with the investigation.

The crack-down was sparked in August amidst a growing chorus of complaints from parents and school districts over teenagers and vaping.

State law prohibits all New York smoke shops from legally selling such products to anyone under the age of 21.
