LOWVILLE- Local officials say a cat in the town of Lowville tested positive for rabies.
Results from New York’s Department of Health confirmed the results. Though officials from Public Health say there was no human contact, a vaccinated dog and an unvaccinated cat were exposed.
As a result, the dog got a rabies booster, while the cat was euthanized.
As a reminder, the Public Health Office says it is critical for pet owners to ensure they keep their pets up to date with their rabies shots and to keep them away from wild animals.
Remember, a rabid animal will display odd behaviors, including a lack of fear towards humans and foaming at the mouth, just to name a few, health officials say.
