GLENFIELD- Since Glenfield Elementary School closed its doors as a final act for South Lewis’ single campus consolidation, the building has been temporarily housing certain departments, including Lewis County DSS.

But when those agencies return to a renovated home base in Lowville, NY, what will become of the historical landmark?

According to the latest from Naturally Lewis, it could someday become a senior living community.

A committee, known as Rochester’s Cornerstone Group Ltd., has been working with the IDA and the county to redevelop the former school. Highlights for this proposal include a half-dozen studio style apartments, along with another 44 one-bedroom apartments and 4 more two-bedroom apartments.

“The partnership with Rochester’s Cornerstone Group is truly a win-win for Lewis County," said Larry Dolhof, Chairman of the Lewis County Board of Legislators.

"The County reclaims its investment in the Glenfield School building through the sale of the property, and, more importantly, an experienced developer is primed to invest millions into our community and provide much-needed housing opportunities for Lewis County seniors."

"This project is a true testimony of the importance of connections and the power of the North Country to bring people back," said Britany Davis, Executive Director of Naturally Lewis.

"We are excited to welcome Rochester’s Cornerstone Group and the Brandt family, founders of RCG, back to the North Country, as their ties run deep as St. Lawrence University alumni, and more excited that they chose Lewis County for their next investment. This partnership, and project, will be transformational for our community.”

According to officials, the project cost would be near $21 million.

The building, for now, is still owned by the county.
