LEWIS COUNTY- The village of Copenhagen has denied the petitions that have been organized to hold a public vote for the fate of their fire department.
This latest development is according to WWNY-TV. Village attorney Candace Randall told trustees in a letter that some signatures on the petitions were duplicated, illegible and some were not village residents.
This is a key reason why the village rejected these petitions.
With the petitions rejected, officials say the situation could find its way to the County’s Supreme Court, a move Attorney Randall says will come with significant costs.
The trustee vote to deny the petitions was 3 to 1.
