LOWVILLE- The village celebrated the completion of its phase 1 of the village’s groundwater project and phase 2 of its wastewater treatment plant project Wednesday.

Several local and state officials attended to cut the ribbon and share remarks. "Because of the strong bond between the village, GYMO and the support of New York State, we have persevered," said Pat Scordo, CEO and Director of Engineering for GYMO.

"Our water system here in the village was put in in 1865, so we need to continue to make upgrades to these projects. We are very thankful for the state of New York for all the grant money we've been able to get. Otherwise, we would not have been able to undertake these projects," said Mayor Joe Beagle.

"This project is an example of what the state of New York should be using its money for. These types of projects that are needed in the North Country and probably throughout the whole state," said New York State Assemblyman Ken Blankenbush.

In terms of the wastewater treatment plant, a new liner was constructed into the lagoon, which is 8-acres in size, as well as upgrades made to the equipment and systems that will monitor village water more efficiently.

Meanwhile, the groundwater project included two additional wells, which will draw a half-million more gallons of water per day for village use.
