DEPUTIES: Man who shot himself in the hand charged with felony count of criminally possessing firearm in Lewis County

LYONSDALE- A man from out of state is faced with a felony accusation after accidentally discharging his own firearm into his own hand in Lewis County.

Sometime shortly after 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office investigated an accidental gunshot wound that was reported through Lewis County Health System.

According to a press release, the incident occurred in the town of Lyonsdale.

Through an investigation, deputies are reporting that Lucas C. Jones, 30, of Merryville, LA had illegally possessed a handgun and it went off while he was attempting to manipulate it.

The discharged round was subsequently lodged into his own hand, resulting in a trip to the hospital.

Authorities said the injuries were minor, however; Jones’ firearm was seized and he was formally charged with one felony count of criminally possessing a firearm.

At press time, deputies said that Jones was released on an appearance ticket.

There were no further details released.
