Martinsburg FD Snowmobile Accident December 2024

LEWIS COUNTY- Local authorities are investigating a snowmobile accident that occurred over the weekend in Lewis County.

It happened on Saturday, according to Martinsburg Volunteer Fire Department. They were the primary responders to the Centerville Rd. and Flat Rock Rd. intersection, where a snow rescue machine was utilized the rest of the way to access the accident scene.

Details remain limited as of this publication, but Martinsburg Fire Department said a landing zone was established nearby for Life Net air medical so they could assist and fly the patient to the nearest hospital in a timely manner.

We are awaiting further word to develop from police investigators. We will share anything new that comes in.   

"We’d like to thank all of our members that took the time out of there evening to assist with this call," Martinsburg Volunteer Fire Department said in a statement released to their social media. 

With the snowmobiling season underway across the North Country, Martinsburg Fire Department warns that the trails have not had time to pack down and settle.

Snowmobilers are reminded always to adhere to the laws and regulations of riding the trails, including maintaining a safe speed and staying off closed trails.
