ONEIDA COUNTY- A family is thankful for firefighters and their efforts for saving their pet dog in a house fire earlier this month.

Last Sunday, Rome Fire Department was called out to an address on Carroll Street. Oneida County Emergency Dispatch reported that witnesses saw smoke coming from the basement.

The family was not home when the flames sparked, but according to the latest updates from WKTV, their two cats and pet dog were.

The cats managed to escape, but the dog, Nova, was found unresponsive by emergency responders behind the living room couch.

Fortunately, fire crews managed to get Nova out of the house and revived. Family members expressed endless thanks to responding firefighters.

Investigators say the fire sparked from a lithium battery that was charging a vacuum.

Firefighters warn residents to avoid charging devices with lithium ion batteries for extended time periods. If you’re not home or if your device is fully charged, officials say to unplug it.
