Driver arrested for intoxicated driving in Croghan registered a .29% BAC following crash, Deputies say

CROGHAN- A motor vehicle wreck early Sunday in Lewis County has resulted in a DWI arrest.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, it happened during the midnight hour on the Belfort Road, town of Croghan.

Investigators say Levi J. Brouty, 23, of Lowville, NY was heading southwest in a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe and all of a sudden went off the roadway, coming to rest on the passenger’s side next to a utility pole.

While investigating, police allege that Brouty appeared intoxicated and failed subsequent filed sobriety tests on-scene.

Brouty was taken in to the Public Safety Building for processing, where he registered a .29% BAC, police said.

Due to a prior conviction, Brouty was charged with a felony count of aggravated DWI. He was also charged with other unspecified traffic infractions.

Upon release, Brouty was issued with appearance tickets, with all charges returnable to Croghan Town Court at a later date.
