Driver who allegedly fled accident scene on foot arrested for felony DWI

ROME- Authorities say a felony arrest has been made in the wake of an accident involving one lone vehicle Sunday evening.

It happened shortly after 6:00 p.m. on the Rome-Taberg Road.

9-1-1 dispatch originally reported a vehicle that had gone off and into a ditch, while bystanders claimed the driver attempted fleeing the scene.

Responding Sheriff’s Deputies located the disabled vehicle in a ditch and upon further investigation, the reported driver, Sara J. Webber, 54 of Rome, NY was located after leaving the scene on foot.

When all was said and done, police charged Webber with felony DWI, aggravated unlicensed operation in the first-degree and other New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law violations.

Webber was taken in for processing and held at the county jail for arraignment the following day.
