DENMARK- A local resident, who is accused of intoxicated driving, registered a BAC level twice the legal limit following a traffic stop Tuesday night in Lewis County, authorities say.

It was shortly before 9:00 p.m. when a Lewis County Sheriff’s Deputy was patrolling State Route 26 in the town of Denmark.

The Deputy encountered a northbound vehicle and had to swerve out of the way because the driver failed to keep right, authorities reported.

A traffic stop was immediately conducted, where the alleged driver, identified as Kirk A. Robbins, 52, of Lowville, NY, failed field sobriety tests on scene, police said.

Robbins was subsequently taken to the Public Safety Building for processing, where deputies say he registered a .16% BAC.

Robbins was formally charged with DWI and failing to keep right.

He was issued with appearance tickets, which are all returnable to Denmark Town Court at a later date.
