Early bow season is underway in Northern New York. With that being said, the same is aimed to open on Sunday, October 1 for the Southern Zone.

With hunting season upon us, the New York State DEC is extending a good luck wish to all of those going afield this fall. "New York State is home to great opportunities for bow-hunters to venture afield in a variety of habitats," said Commissioner Seggos.

"With mild weather and longer days, the early bow season is an ideal time to be in the woods and introduce new hunters to deer and bear hunting."

Additionally, early muzzleloader season for deer and bear in the Northern Zone begins October 14, and continues through October 20.

The regular firearms season for deer and bear in the Northern Zone commences on October 21.

DEC also reminds hunters of the importance of reporting their harvest. Hunters are required to report their harvest of deer, bear, and turkey within seven days of taking the animal.
