Emergency responders save 3 from Lewis County house blaze

LEWIS COUNTY- Local authorities have released an update regarding Sunday night’s fire, which destroyed a Lewis County home.

According to the Office of Emergency Management, it happened shortly after 9:30 p.m. at 3491 Deer River Road, Copenhagen, NY.

A cause of this fire remains unknown as of this report, as members from Cause and Origin and State Fire Investigators were called in to assist.

The home is reportedly owned by Frank and Cindy Buchal. They were home with their teenage son when the flames broke out, emergency officials said.

All three victims made it out of the burning home. They all received medical treatment and evaluation.

The home is a total loss and the Red Cross has been called in to assist.

West Carthage Fire Department was the primary responder on scene, with mutual aid provided thanks to Beaver Falls, Carthage, Castorland, Lowville and Rutland.

Members from Lewis County Search & Rescue, Carthage Area Rescue Squad, Beaver Falls Ambulance, Lewis County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police and National Grid all assisted.
