Felony charges filed against local resident for alleged robbery, assault in Lewis County

GREIG- A local resident is faced with a list of felony charges for alleged robbery and assault this week in Lewis County, authorities are reporting.

Randy J. Ossont, 42, of Leyden, NY was arrested Thursday by the Sheriff's Office. Ossont is formally charged with one felony count each of robbery in the first-degree, assault (w/intent to cause physical injury w/a dangerous instrument) and criminally possessing a weapon in the third-degree.

According to investigators, these charges all stem from an alleged robbery in the town of Greig on Tuesday, where Ossont is accused of striking a victim numerous times in the head with a blunt object before stealing property and fleeing from the scene.

Authorities immediately put out an arrest warrant and only two-days-later, Ossont was located in the village of Boonville, NY.

Ossont was processed at the Public Safety Building and arraigned in Lowville Town Court, where bail was set at $1,000.

An order of protection was put in place for the victim.
