Fire behind auto repair shop in Forestport successfully doused

ONEIDA COUNTY- Firefighters doused a blaze Tuesday evening in the town of Forestport.

It happened shortly after 7:00 p.m. behind an auto repair shop at 9004 Trestle Road. Forestport Fire Department was the primary responder.

According to the Forestport Fire Department, the first wave of firefighters discovered a heavy fire burning behind the property.

The blaze was centered in a pile of old tires. Attack lines were stretched immediately to the rear of the building to contain the flames.

Because the area lacks hydrant access, additional tankers were requested to the scene, and a remote water fill site was established to maintain a steady water supply, said the Forestport Fire Department.

Thanks to swift coordination, crews had the fire under control within an hour and a half, shifting focus to overhaul and soaking the area to prevent rekindling.

Otter Lake, Remsen, Stittville and Woodgate Fire Departments all provided mutual aid.

North Star Ambulance, Oneida County Sheriff's Office, New York State Police and National Grid all assisted.
