Lowville FD House Fire October 2024

LOWVILLE- Firefighters managed to keep damage to a minimum Sunday night after an unattended candle sparked a house fire in Lewis County.

It was shortly after 6:30 p.m. when Lowville Fire Department was dispatched to 8454 Number Three Road for a house fire.

According to Fire Chief Joe Austin, there were family members going in and out of the house to retrieve belongings, including furniture.

For safety concerns, the family was instructed to cease with re-entering into the house.

Castorland Fire Department was called in for mutual aid.

When all was said and done, firefighters managed to contain the flames to the room of origin, which was a bedroom. Chief Austin says the cause was an unattended candle.

No injuries were reported. The owner has been identified as Amos L. Stoltzfus.

There was minor structural damage reported (which can be repaired, Chief Austin said).

Minor smoke and water damage was confirmed as well.
