Western Garage Fire July 2022

WESTERN- Firefighters managed to prevent a garage blaze from spreading to a nearby home over the weekend.

It was just before 3:30 p.m. Saturday when Western Fire Department was alerted to reports of a structure fire on the River Road, town of Western.

Dispatchers were informed that a garage was on fire and warned responders that gasoline and propane were inside. Heavy smoke was witnessed about a mile away.

The garage was detached from the nearby home and within a few moments of arrival, firefighters witnessed a collapse of the structure.

Officials said it was still a nerve-racking experience with the heavy fuel load playing factor. Fortunately, the flames were extinguished.

Members from Lee Center and Lake Delta Fire Departments, along with National Grid all provided assistance on scene.

This was all going on while Western Fire Department was preparing to host a special banquet.

Western Fire Department offers their sincere gratitude towards Lee Center and Lake Delta for offering to complete overhaul operations, which allowed the banquet to proceed as planned, despite their neighboring departments being invited as guests to the celebration.

The banquet was organized to honor the efforts of everyone who came together and helped rebuild after last year’s EF-1 tornado that tore through the area.
